Thailand civil service board advances early retirement and anti‑corruption steps
Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprathan, acting as chair of the Civil Service Board (ก.พ.), announced that the board will expedite an early‑retirement scheme for civil servants, aiming for it to take effect in the FY 2027 budget. The move is intended to curb the expanding share of personnel and pension costs, which now exceed 70% of the regular budget. Pakorn also directed the board, together with the Treasury Department and the Insurance Business Promotion Commission, to study introducing a health‑insurance system to replace the current arrangement and to adjust overseas salary allowances, especially for staff posted in Japan where living costs have risen sharply.
In a related action, Pakorn presented five anti‑corruption measures to address a recent scandal involving cheating in local civil‑service examinations. The board will lead an investigation in cooperation with the National Anti‑Corruption Commission and the police, and the findings will be forwarded to the relevant ministries for disciplinary and criminal proceedings. These proposals are awaiting cabinet approval.
