Thailand DLA refers 5,925 names for criminal probe over exam fraud
Nirat Pongsittithavorn, acting Director-General of the Department of Local Administration (DLA), has announced that 5,925 names have been submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission and police for criminal investigation following irregularities in local government examinations.
The investigation follows the cancellation of previous successful candidate lists that were found to be inconsistent with facts. To ensure transparency, the DLA has established a system where candidates can review their corrected scores at both provincial and central levels from August 13 to 31.
Addressing potential structural reforms, Nirat stated that while the DLA currently manages these exams, he does not oppose a policy shift that would transfer examination responsibilities to the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC). He emphasized the need for internal restructuring to prevent future corruption and ensure that evidence against those involved is indisputable.
