Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast across Thailand as tropical storm Me Kha moves toward Japan
The Thai Meteorological Department issued a 24‑hour forecast for June 26‑27, 2023, warning of widespread thunderstorm activity and heavy rain in central, eastern and western‑southern regions, including Bangkok and its suburbs. About 60 % of the central and eastern provinces are expected to experience intense downpours, with localized flooding possible. The northern and northeastern areas face moderate thunderstorms covering roughly 30 % of the territory. Coastal waters of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will see wave heights of 1‑2 metres, rising above 2 metres in zones of active thunderstorm activity, prompting advisories for mariners to avoid those areas.
A tropical disturbance named “Me Kha” is tracking southward in the Pacific and is projected to approach southern Japan on June 27, but it is not expected to enter Thai waters. The forecast also notes a low‑pressure area over northern Vietnam influencing the regional weather pattern.
