Thailand government coordinates flood response in Bangkok and central regions
The Thai government is actively monitoring and managing flood risks across Bangkok and several central and western provinces due to heavy rainfall expected between September 23 and 30, 2026. In Bangkok, officials including Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaiyanok Chidchob and Deputy Minister of Interior Worrasit Liangprasit have met with the Department of Drainage to accelerate water drainage and prepare emergency measures.
Key response efforts include the preparation of temporary shelters in local schools, the designation of vehicle parking areas, and specialized assistance for vulnerable groups such as bedridden patients. To support these efforts, digital tools and maps are being utilized to track water levels, drainage status, and road flooding.
In the central and western regions, including the Mae Klong and Phetchaburi-Prachuap Khiri Khan river basins, the government has ordered daily monitoring of water levels. Authorities are coordinating with the National Water Resources Office to ensure rapid response and aid for residents in provinces such as Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Phetchaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan.
