Thailand infrastructure updates: Purple Line and M6 motorway progress

Thailand is advancing several major transportation projects to improve connectivity and manage seasonal traffic. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) reports that civil works for the Purple Line South are approximately 79 percent complete. The first phase, connecting Tao Poon to the National Library station, is scheduled to open in 2029, with the full line expected to be operational by November 2030.

In road infrastructure, the M6 motorway connecting Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima will be open for free 24 hours a day starting December 25 to alleviate year-end holiday congestion. Civil works on the M6 are nearly finished, at 99.81 percent completion. Official toll collection for this route is slated to begin in April 2027.

Additionally, the M82 motorway is currently undergoing free trial operations, though authorities are working to expand exits to reduce congestion. Another major project, the Rama III to Dao Khanong expressway, is 97 percent complete, with a trial opening expected in late 2026.
