Thailand transportation infrastructure development
Overview
Thailand is progressing with several major transit and road projects. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand reports that civil works for the Purple Line South are approximately 79 percent complete, with the full line expected to be operational by November 2030.
Regarding road infrastructure, the M6 motorway connecting Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima is nearly finished at 99.81 percent completion. To alleviate holiday congestion, the M6 will be open for free 24 hours a day starting December 25, with official toll collection scheduled for April 2027.
As part of the M9 Western Outer Ring Road project, the Department of Highways will temporarily close the exit from the M6 to the M9 West at the Bang Pa-in 2 Interchange from November 6, 2026, until March 31, 2027. During this construction period, traffic on the M9 main line will be diverted to parallel roads, including Highways 3901 and 3902.
