Thailand issues arrest warrant after Narathiwat checkpoint attack kills five rangers

On July 22, insurgents attacked a volunteer ranger checkpoint in Thailand's far‑south Narathiwat province, killing five rangers and injuring six civilians. The assault involved at least ten gunmen, who used M16 and AK‑type rifles, a pistol and a pipe bomb, and lasted about a minute and a half. Investigators recovered over 100 spent casings and seized weapons and equipment taken from the site.

Following the attack, martial law was declared in Narathiwat. The Internal Security Operations Command secured an arrest warrant for suspect Azizun, a resident of Chanae district, and summoned another suspect, Mahamasri, for questioning. Authorities continue to gather evidence and pursue remaining fugitives to prosecute those responsible.
