Thailand issues flood warnings for industrial zones
The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has issued an emergency warning to companies following heavy rainfall and high reservoir levels across Thailand. With major dams reaching average storage rates of 77%, including 89% in the west and 85% in the east, the risk of flooding remains extremely high despite recent lulls in rain.
Industrial zones in eastern Bangkok, specifically the Lat Krabang and Bangchan industrial estates, have experienced flooding with water depths reaching between 20 and 50 centimeters. The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) is currently using large pumps to drain these areas, which house many Japanese-affiliated factories.
Industry Minister Warawoot stated that there has been no significant economic impact yet, noting that this weather pattern differs from the massive 2011 floods because the water is accumulating locally due to stationary low-pressure systems rather than flowing from the north. The FTI has urged businesses to immediately review Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and inspect emergency equipment, such as generators and water pumps, to prevent supply chain disruptions.
