Thailand Issues Nationwide Heavy Rain and Flood Warnings for Late July

Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) have placed 61 provinces and Bangkok on alert for heavy rain, flash floods, landslides and rough seas from July 26‑30, 2026. A monsoon trough moving across northern Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, together with a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rain nationwide, with the heaviest falls in eastern Thailand and the western coast of the south. Wave heights of 2‑3 metres are forecast for the Andaman Sea, rising above 3 metres during thunderstorms, while the Gulf of Thailand will see roughly 2‑metre waves.

Fourteen northern provinces, eighteen in the northeast, nine central, six eastern and several southern coastal provinces are on flood, landslide or high‑sea‑state watch. Authorities have instructed provincial disaster offices to ready equipment and personnel and have urged residents near waterways, steep hills and low‑lying areas to move valuables to higher ground, avoid travel on vulnerable mountain roads and keep small vessels away from areas of thunderstorms. The alert does not include the tropical storm “Noeul,” which is expected to remain east of the Philippines and will not impact Thailand. The next official weather update is scheduled for later on July 24.
