Thailand weather warning issued for heavy rain and storms

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued urgent warnings regarding heavy to very heavy rainfall across much of Thailand. A strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a monsoon trough passing through Myanmar and upper Laos, is driving the severe weather.

Heavy rain is expected in several regions, particularly in the North, the upper Northeast, and the East. Specific provinces at risk of heavy downpours include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Tak, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Residents are advised to be cautious of potential flash floods and forest runoffs, especially in low-lying areas and near hillsides.

Maritime warnings are in effect for the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. In the upper Andaman Sea, waves may reach 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. Small boats in these areas are advised to remain ashore. While Tropical Storm Narra is moving toward southern China and is not expected to enter Thailand directly, its presence contributes to the regional weather patterns.
