Thailand JIC responds to Cambodian territorial claims

Air Vice Marshal Prapas Sonjaidee, Director of the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Information Center (JIC), has responded to recent statements from Cambodian leaders regarding territorial disputes and border security.

Addressing comments made by Prime Minister Hun Manet, who accused Thailand of occupying Cambodian territory, Air Vice Marshal Prapas emphasized that national resilience must be accompanied by regional responsibility. He stated that border disputes cannot be settled through media claims or international forums, but must be resolved through established bilateral mechanisms, maps, and documented evidence. He urged adherence to the joint statement signed on December 27, 2025, which focuses on troop positioning and tension reduction without predetermining border demarcation.

Regarding Hun Sen’s proposal for a parliamentary observer group and his remarks that ceasefire agreements might only be ‘pieces of paper,’ the JIC Director argued that existing bilateral and border mechanisms should be utilized effectively first. He noted that observers should monitor situations rather than act as judges of sovereignty. He further countered claims of ‘salami slicing’ tactics, asserting that territorial claims must be supported by specific coordinates and official documentation rather than strategic terminology.
