Thailand Ministry of Interior to revoke 5,900 appointments over exam fraud

Thailand's Ministry of Interior is moving to revoke the appointments of approximately 5,925 individuals implicated in a large-scale local government recruitment exam fraud. Deputy Interior Minister Worasit Liangprasit stated that data regarding irregular scores is being sent to provincial committees and local administrative organizations nationwide to facilitate the removal of those involved in the malpractice.

The removal process aims to create vacancies for honest candidates who were previously denied positions due to the fraudulent entries. Officials emphasized that the process will not be delayed, despite concerns from local administrators. The fraudulent activity reportedly involves a complex 32-step scheme with financial trails reaching 9 billion baht, allegedly involving high-level civil servants and politicians.

The Committee on Decentralization is seeking strict legal action, including criminal, civil, and administrative penalties, against those involved. There are also calls to dissolve the Local Government Personnel Commission following these significant failures.
