Thailand weather alert: Heavy rain and flood risks forecast

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings for unsettled weather across Thailand from October 4 to 7, driven by cold air from China interacting with the southwest monsoon. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in several regions, including the North, Northeast, Central, and parts of the South. Authorities have warned of risks including flash floods, forest runoffs, and accumulated rain in low-lying areas.

Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed governors of all 76 provinces to prepare personnel, equipment, food, and emergency supplies. He emphasized the need for readiness in areas where floodwaters are currently receding, as new weather patterns could cause renewed flooding. In Bangkok, the Prime Minister ordered the acceleration of water drainage through the use of pump stations and drainage tunnels to prevent overflow.

To manage the crisis effectively, Anutin called for all agencies to utilize a single, unified set of data to ensure consistent communication and prevent public confusion. Officials are also monitoring the maritime situation, as strong winds and waves exceeding 2 meters are expected in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
