Thailand PM addresses border disputes and energy security
Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed border tensions and energy security during a meeting with the Thai community in New York. Regarding disputes with neighboring countries, he assured citizens that Thailand is prepared to protect its sovereignty and that there is no immediate threat of violence or loss of territory.
Anutin noted that MOU 44 has been canceled and a new agreement will be established once neighbors are ready to negotiate. He emphasized that Thailand will set the terms for future discussions. Regarding relations with Myanmar, he highlighted ongoing cooperation in gas resources and the expansion of concessions for PTT.
On the issue of maritime resources with Cambodia, the Prime Minister stated that Thailand continues to utilize its own gas resources in the Gulf of Thailand. He expressed confidence in Thailand's long-term energy security, citing the discovery of new natural gas sources in the Andaman Sea that could sustain the country for the next 50 to 60 years.
