Thailand Pollution Control Department corrects Prachin Buri water test data
The Pollution Control Department (PCD) has issued a correction regarding water quality analysis following reports of mass fish deaths in Prachin Buri province, specifically in the Si Maha Phot district. The department admitted to a reporting error where the concentration levels for ammonia and aluminum were inadvertently swapped in previous communications.
Corrected data from samples collected in mid-October shows dissolved oxygen levels between 2.5 and 7.5 mg/L. Ammonia concentrations are confirmed to be between 0.22 and 0.48 mg/L, while most heavy metals remained below 0.01 mg/L. However, aluminum levels were identified in the range of 0.559 to 3.547 mg/L.
The PCD apologized for the inaccuracy and emphasized its commitment to transparent and accurate scientific communication. To determine the cause of the fish deaths, the department plans to collect sediment samples from the Prachin Buri River and its tributaries once flood conditions normalize. Investigations will focus on areas receiving runoff from industrial zones, communities, and agricultural lands to assess pollutant accumulation.
