Thailand to launch voluntary military service project in 2027
The Thai government is advancing its policy to transition military service toward a voluntary system. Government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek announced that the Royal Thai Army will implement the Volunteer Soldier Project (TOS) during the 2027 fiscal year.
The program aims to recruit reserve personnel by offering incentives and career development opportunities. Participants will receive a monthly salary and allowance totaling 15,000 baht, along with medical benefits, life insurance, and disaster relief assistance. The project also provides paths for educational advancement and professional skill development.
Career opportunities include special quotas for entering the Army Non-Commissioned Officer School and additional academic points for civil service recruitment within the army. The program is open to graduates of Territorial Defense Students (Years 3–5) and discharged reservists or conscripts.
Commissioned officer positions require a bachelor's degree for applicants aged 18–35, while non-commissioned positions require a high school diploma or vocational certificate for applicants aged 18–30. Contracts are set for four-year terms, with the possibility of one renewal for a maximum of eight years. Applications can be submitted online or in person at military units and district conscription offices from September 10, 2026, to January 24, 2027.
