Thailand weather alert: Heavy rain and flood risks nationwide

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings regarding heavy to very heavy rainfall across much of Thailand, effective through September 27, 2026. The weather is driven by a strong low-pressure cell and a vigorous southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Significant rainfall is expected in several regions. The western central region faces heavy to very heavy rain, while Bangkok, its surrounding metropolitan areas, and the eastern provinces are seeing a decrease in intensity but continue to experience persistent rainfall. Other high-risk areas include parts of the North, Northeast, and South, with specific warnings for provinces such as Tak, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, and various coastal areas.

Authorities have warned of potential flash floods, forest runoffs, and landslides, particularly in mountainous areas and low-lying plains. Residents are advised to avoid traveling through flood-prone routes. Additionally, maritime warnings are in effect for the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, where waves may reach 2–3 meters, or higher in thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the upper Gulf of Thailand and the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore until September 28, 2026.
