Thailand weather alert: Heavy rain and flood risks nationwide
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued an urgent weather advisory for heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand, effective through September 20, 2026. This weather pattern is driven by a high-pressure system and a cold air mass from China moving into northern and northeastern Thailand, which is pushing the monsoon trough southward across the central, eastern, and southern regions.
Authorities have warned of significant risks including flash floods, forest runoffs, landslides, and urban flooding. Residents in hilly, low-lying areas and near waterways are advised to exercise extreme caution. All 76 provinces, including Bangkok, are on high alert. In the north and northeast, heavy rain is expected to impact several provinces, while the south faces very heavy downpours.
Marine conditions are also hazardous. In the Andaman Sea, waves are expected to reach 2-3 meters, potentially exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. Consequently, small boats in the northern Andaman Sea have been advised to remain ashore through September 20 to ensure safety.
