Thailand weather alert: Heavy rain and flash flood warnings

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall across much of Thailand, particularly in the northern, northeastern, eastern, and western southern regions. The weather is being driven by a monsoon trough passing through Myanmar and Laos into Vietnam, combined with a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Residents are cautioned against risks of flash floods, forest runoff, and overflowing rivers, especially in low-lying areas, near waterways, and on hillsides. Specific provinces facing heavy rain include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Tak, Phetchabun, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chanthaburi, and Trat.

Maritime conditions are also hazardous. In the upper Andaman Sea, waves are expected to reach 2 to 3 metres, potentially exceeding 3 metres during thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore, and sailors are urged to navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorm zones.
