Thailand weather warning issued for heavy rain and flash floods

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued its 10th warning bulletin, forecasting increased rainfall and heavy to very heavy rain across much of Thailand through September 2, 2026. The weather pattern is driven by a monsoon trough moving through upper northern and northeastern Thailand toward a tropical depression located off the coast of southern China. Additionally, a strong southwest monsoon is affecting the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Authorities have warned of risks including flash floods and forest runoffs, particularly in mountainous areas and low-lying plains. Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone routes. In the Andaman Sea, waves are expected to reach 2-3 meters, potentially exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas, prompting warnings for mariners and advising small boats to remain ashore.

The tropical depression in southern China is expected to intensify and move near Taiwan between September 2 and 3, 2026, though it is not expected to move directly into Thailand.
