Thailand weather warning: heavy rain and flood risks nationwide
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued nationwide warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand. Significant weather patterns, including a weakening high-pressure system from China and a monsoon trough passing through the lower Central, upper South, and Eastern regions, are driving the intense precipitation.
In the Eastern region, very heavy rain is expected in provinces such as Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Bangkok and its surrounding metropolitan areas are forecast to experience thunderstorms covering approximately 80 percent of the area. The North and Northeast are also expected to see thunderstorms in 60 to 70 percent of their respective areas.
Authorities have warned residents, particularly those in low-lying areas and near hillsides, to prepare for potential flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides. Travelers are advised to avoid routes prone to frequent flooding. Additionally, maritime warnings have been issued for the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, where waves may exceed 2 to 3 meters during thunderstorms, prompting caution for sailors and restrictions for small boats in the upper Andaman Sea.
