Southeast Asia weather alerts: Heavy rain and flood risks in Thailand and Hong Kong

Severe weather warnings have been issued across parts of Southeast Asia. In Thailand, the Meteorological Department has issued alerts for the period of October 4–7, warning of unstable weather, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected to affect the northern, central, and eastern regions, including the Bangkok metropolitan area. Residents in low-lying areas and near mountains are advised to watch for flash floods and sudden water surges. Additionally, high waves exceeding 2 meters are expected in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

In Hong Kong, the Observatory issued a yellow rainstorm warning due to heavy thunderstorms associated with an upper-level disturbance. Significant rainfall, exceeding 70 mm per hour, was recorded in the Sai Kung and outlying islands (Lantau) areas, raising concerns about potential flooding. Authorities have advised citizens to remain vigilant as the weather conditions fluctuate.
