Thailand's Interior Ministry moves to address local government exam corruption

On June 25, Deputy Minister Warasith Liangprasit of Thailand's Ministry of Interior said the Department of Local Administration had issued a letter on June 24 postponing the appointment of candidates slated to start on July 1 in all provinces. The delay follows a joint raid by the National Anti‑Corruption Commission (NCAC) and the anti‑fraud police unit, which seized answer sheets from the 2025 local government employee examinations and uncovered a fraud network.

The ministry has established a central committee to review the case within seven days, aiming to separate candidates who passed the exam honestly from those linked to the corrupt scheme. NCAC has confiscated the original answer sheets and is seeking cooperation to re‑examine them, potentially with equipment from a local university. Officials stressed that resignations will not shield implicated individuals from prosecution. The investigation is being expanded to cover additional provinces beyond the initial sites.

The government emphasized swift action to protect the rights of legitimate candidates while pursuing criminal charges against those involved in the exam cheating scandal.
