Thailand's Interior Ministry orders overhaul of local civil service exam
Minister Worawit Liangprasit of Thailand's Ministry of Interior announced on 1 August that the Department of Local Administration Promotion must raise the standards of examinations for local government positions. A 7‑day, 30‑day and 90‑day timetable was set to collect anti‑corruption proposals, implement transparency measures and report results, aiming to make the exam process more transparent and reduce opportunities for fraud.
The minister also urged all relevant agencies to accelerate investigations into alleged misconduct, stating that within a week a clear outcome must be reached. He warned that any officials found involved in corrupt practices will face disciplinary, administrative and criminal penalties, emphasizing that “the truth must appear, justice must arise, and cheaters must be punished.” The actions are intended to restore public confidence in local recruitment and governance.
