Thailand's livestock sector sees pork price slump and poultry export surge
Thai pig farmers are facing losses as farm‑gate pork prices have fallen to THB54‑58 per kilogram, well below production costs of THB70‑72. The drop, driven by higher feed corn prices and concerns over illegal pork supplies, has left farmers losing about THB1,500‑1,800 per animal despite a recovery in domestic pork consumption. The National Swine Raisers Association plans to request an update on pork‑smuggling cases from the Department of Special Investigation.
In contrast, Thailand's Saha Farms has doubled its export volume to 220,000 tonnes, with strong demand for cooked and frozen chicken products across Asia, Europe and the Middle East outpacing its production capacity. The company is also expanding into tilapia and catfish to diversify its seafood offerings.
