Thanasis Kontogeorgis praises fire service coordination amid Greek wildfires
Deputy Minister Thanasis Kontogeorgis told Real FM that the Hellenic fire service, its personnel and local authorities are carrying out a "titanic" effort to combat the ongoing wildfires across Greece. He highlighted the coordinated work of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, noting that the Prime Minister attended a civil‑protection coordination meeting to assess the situation and express support.
Kontogeorgis said the Public Power Corporation (DEH) is investing in replacing power networks in high‑risk zones and that an investigation will determine responsibility for the recent fires on Crete. He responded to opposition criticism by emphasizing that the focus is on protecting lives and strengthening the civil‑protection system, inviting constructive proposals from lawmakers. The deputy minister also outlined the activation of mechanisms to assist victims and the role of the General Secretariat for State Aid and Disaster Recovery in recording damages.
