Thane construction accident: 12-tonne structure falls on car

A 12-tonne steel reinforcement cage fell from a construction site onto a moving vehicle at the Anand Nagar-Saket Elevated Road project near Kopri Bridge in Thane. The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon, resulting in damage to the car’s front windshield, though no injuries or casualties were reported.

Following the incident, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) imposed a penalty of Rs 2 crore on the contractor responsible for the project. The MMRDA stated that construction safety violations will not be tolerated and has ordered a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and identify any lapses in safety protocols.
