Thanh Hằng's 'Mesdames Thanh Sắc' Gets North American Release as Box‑Office Flop

The Vietnamese film 'Mesdames Thanh Sắc', starring supermodel‑turned‑actress Thanh Hằng, opened on 19 June 2026. After a month in theatres it earned only 16.6 billion VND, far below the 70‑80 billion VND needed to break even. With production costs estimated at 20‑40 billion VND, the movie is projected to have lost around 63.4 billion VND, making it one of the biggest commercial failures in Vietnam’s 2026 cinema season.

International entertainment magazine Variety reported that a North‑American distributor has purchased the film’s rights and will release it under the English title "Madame in Saigon". A red‑carpet premiere is planned in Los Angeles on 26 August, featuring Thanh Hằng.

The dual development—domestic box‑office disappointment and overseas distribution deal—highlights the challenges of recouping high production budgets in the Vietnamese market while seeking new revenue streams abroad.
