The Apothecary Diaries announces first feature film for 2026
The anime franchise ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ will expand to the big screen with its first feature film, tentatively titled ‘The Deceased Empress’ Treasure’. The movie is scheduled to premiere in Japan on December 11, 2026.
Unlike previous adaptations, the film will feature an original story developed in collaboration with the series creator, Hyuganatsu, rather than adapting existing chapters from the manga or light novels. The plot follows protagonists Maomao and Jinshi as they investigate a mystery involving a hidden treasure in a water city.
Key voice actors Aoi Yuki and Takeo Otsuka will return to their roles, with Mariya Ise joining the cast. The production is being handled by TOHO Animation and studio OLM, directed by Norihiko Naganuma. While a Japanese release date is set, international release dates have not yet been announced.
In the interim, the third season of the anime series is scheduled to begin airing on October 2, 2026, via Crunchyroll. This season will be split into two parts, with the second half expected in April 2027.
