The Backrooms film features 3D advertisement in Akasaka
A real-world 3D advertisement for the A24 film ‘The Backrooms’ has appeared in Akasaka, Tokyo. The installation, created by the creative team PINPIN STUDIO, utilizes an empty space in a building to recreate the ‘liminal space’ featured in the movie.
The display uses the glass-walled room itself as a screen to present an eerie environment, including a pile of furniture reconstructed from recycled junk items. As part of the promotion, a YouTube Live stream is available via a hidden link, allowing viewers to ‘spy’ on the space through surveillance cameras while listening to the film’s soundtrack.
Directed by Kane Parsons, ‘The Backrooms’ has seen significant commercial success, earning over $81 million in its US opening weekend and reaching a global box office total of $118 million.
