The Beatles release unreleased 1965 ‘Day Tripper’ songwriting recording

The Beatles have released an unreleased 1965 recording titled ‘Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape)’. The recording captures John Lennon and Paul McCartney during a songwriting session at Lennon’s home in England, prior to the development of the song’s iconic guitar riff.

The track shows the duo evolving the piece from a folk song Lennon had composed the previous month. The recording is noted for its spontaneous atmosphere, featuring the artists laughing and enjoying the creative process. This release is part of the promotion for an expanded edition of the album ‘Rubber Soul’, scheduled for release on October 2.

The upcoming ‘Rubber Soul’ project includes new mixes by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, featuring 24 studio takes—20 of which are previously unreleased—and three home demos. Additionally, it was announced that Sam Mendes will direct four films centered on the Liverpool group, with a planned premiere in April 2028.
