The Browser Company to shut down Arc browser by December 2026
The Browser Company has announced that its Arc web browser will officially cease operations on December 22, 2026. The decision marks a strategic pivot toward Dia, a new browser built from the ground up with a focus on artificial intelligence.
The shutdown will occur in three distinct stages. New account creation for Arc has already been disabled. On November 23, 2026, the mobile versions (Arc Search) on iOS and Android will lose their AI capabilities, such as ‘Browse for Me’, and will no longer support account synchronization. Finally, on December 22, the desktop versions for macOS and Windows will stop functioning, and user accounts will be deactivated. Personal data associated with these accounts will be deleted within 30 days of the shutdown.
To facilitate the transition, the company is encouraging users to migrate to Dia. Users can import their passwords, bookmarks, extensions, and browsing history into the new platform. Features such as Arc’s ‘Spaces’ will be available in Dia as ‘Profiles’, while ‘Folders’ will transition to ‘Pinned Tab Groups’. While Dia offers core browsing features for free, its advanced AI capabilities will be an optional paid service.
The company noted that maintaining a secure browser requires immense resources, especially in the AI era. Following Atlassian’s $610 million acquisition of The Browser Company in 2025, engineering and security efforts will be concentrated exclusively on Dia to ensure it meets modern standards.
