The Browser Company transition from Arc to Dia
Overview
The Browser Company has announced the discontinuation of its Arc web browser, with desktop versions for macOS and Windows scheduled to cease functioning on December 22, 2026. Following the shutdown, user accounts will be deactivated and personal data will be deleted within 30 days.
The decision represents a strategic pivot toward Dia, a new browser built specifically for the artificial intelligence era. The company, which was acquired by Atlassian for $610 million in 2025, intends to concentrate all engineering and security resources on Dia to address modern security standards and AI-driven threats.
The shutdown will occur in stages. New account creation for Arc has already been disabled. On November 23, 2026, mobile versions on iOS and Android will lose AI capabilities and account synchronization. To assist the transition, the company is encouraging users to migrate to Dia, which will offer features such as ‘Profiles’ and ‘Pinned Tab Groups’ as successors to Arc’s ‘Spaces’ and ‘Folders’. While core browsing features in Dia will be free, advanced AI capabilities will be an optional paid service.
