The Ellinikon Sports Park inaugurated as part of major urban renewal
The Ellinikon Sports Park has been officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and LAMDA Development CEO Odysseas Athanasiou. Spanning 287,000 square meters, the facility is a key component of Europe’s largest urban regeneration project. The complex includes a 400m athletics track, a throwing field, four football pitches (including FIFA Pro certified synthetic and hybrid grass), basketball and tennis courts, and an athlete accommodation building with 274 beds. Construction was carried out by AKTOR and METKA.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized that the park is an open public destination for all residents of Attica, serving as a “lung” for the community and a catalyst for athletic success. He linked the project to a broader national strategy for upgrading sports infrastructure, including the renovation of OAKA and the SEF. LAMDA Development noted that while the company reported recent losses due to the transition from planning to delivery, the park marks a shift toward operational revenue.
Separately, the Greek cruise industry is facing challenges regarding the green transition. Industry leaders at the International Maritime Transport Conference in Thessaloniki highlighted the need for a stable regulatory framework and improved port infrastructure, such as shore power capabilities, to keep pace with the global trend of investing in cleaner, more technologically advanced vessels.
