The Hague Court issues conflicting rulings on Rotterdam councilor's statements

The Hague Court of Appeal has issued conflicting developments regarding whether Rotterdam city councilor Kevin van Eikeren (PRO) must rectify controversial statements made about entrepreneur and theme park owner Wim Beelen.

During an emergency hearing, reports indicated that the court initially found Van Eikeren's remarks—which included calling Beelen a “hard-nosed speculator” and suggesting he intended to build expensive housing on theme park land—to be unlawful and without factual basis. A decision was expected regarding a mandatory rectification to be posted on social media.

However, subsequent reports indicate the court has ruled that Van Eikeren does not have to issue the rectification. The specific legal reasoning for this reversal has not yet been made public, and a full written judgment is expected to follow at a later date.
