A court in The Hague has ordered the Dutch Public Prosecution Service to release the names of 14 doctors and psychiatrists to the parents of a 17-year-old girl who died by euthanasia in 2023.

The dispute stems from a letter sent to the prosecution service in 2024 by the medical professionals. In the letter, the signatories suggested that the girl may have lacked the mental capacity to make her decision and alleged that her parents and certain psychiatrists influenced her choice. The parents argue these claims are unfounded and have damaged their reputation and grieving process.

The parents had previously only known the identities of six signatories, including professors Jim van Os and Damiaan Denys. They sought the full list of names to pursue disciplinary action through the medical disciplinary board, which cannot process complaints against anonymous healthcare providers. The parents expressed satisfaction with the ruling, stating it allows them to hold all involved parties accountable.
