Dutch euthanasia case legal dispute

Following the 2023 euthanasia of 17-year-old Milou Verhoof due to psychological suffering, a legal and ethical dispute has emerged involving medical professionals and the family.

In a significant legal development, The Hague District Court has ordered the Dutch Public Prosecution Service to release the names of all 14 doctors and psychiatrists to the parents. The parents had previously only identified six signatories, including professors Jim van Os and Damiaan Denys. The ruling enables the family to pursue disciplinary action through the medical disciplinary board, which is unable to process complaints against anonymous healthcare providers. The parents expressed satisfaction with the decision, stating it allows them to hold all involved parties accountable.
