The Hague opens pop-up museum on Moluccan history

Mayor Jan van Zanen officially opened the pop-up museum ‘75 years of Moluccans in the Netherlands’ at the Lange Voorhout in The Hague. The exhibition, housed in six shipping containers, commemorates the 75-year history of the Moluccan community in the country.

Five of the containers focus on broader historical contexts, while a dedicated container for The Hague features personal family stories, illustrating the deep roots of the Moluccan community within the city. The opening ceremony included traditional Moluccan dance and tifa music, followed by a poem by Edward Tuheteru, chairman of the Stichting Maluku Den Haag, regarding the arrival of Moluccan KNIL soldiers and their families.

The exhibition is available for free until Sunday, August 23, and coincides with the Jalan Jalandat Indische festival taking place in The Hague.
