The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping set for November release

The Hunger Games prequel, ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’, is scheduled for theatrical release on November 20, 2026. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film follows a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy during the 50th annual Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell, where he must compete against 48 other tributes.

The film has a confirmed runtime of 2 hours and 38 minutes, making it the longest entry in the franchise to date. It carries a reported budget of $185 million, nearly double that of its predecessor, ‘The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’.

Cast members, including Whitney Peak and Mckenna Grace, have described the film’s tone as “devastating” and “very sad.” The ensemble cast features Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, alongside Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, and Maya Hawke, with Jennifer Lawrence confirmed for a cameo.
