The Invite film starring Penélope Cruz and Olivia Wilde

The film ‘The Invite’ (La invitación), directed by Olivia Wilde, is set for release in Spanish cinemas on October 16. The production features a cast including Wilde, Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton.

The story follows a couple, Joe and Angela, whose marriage is in a delicate state. A dinner with their neighbors, played by Cruz and Norton, becomes a turning point that challenges their relationship and explores the complexities of maintaining intimacy.

An adaptation of the Spanish film ‘Sentimental’ (2020) by Cesc Gay, the screenplay by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack translates the original Spanish narrative into a contemporary American cultural context. The film explores themes of middle-age frustrations, the wear of long-term relationships, and modern obsessions with constant sentimental self-improvement and relationship optimization.
