The Odyssey returns to IMAX and 70mm screens
Christopher Nolan’s film ‘The Odyssey’ is returning to select IMAX theaters, including the prestigious 70mm format, starting October 9. This re-release follows the film’s massive global success, having grossed approximately $1.76 billion worldwide. This total makes it Universal Studios’ highest-grossing film to date, surpassing the previous record held by ‘Jurassic World’.
The decision to return the film to large-format screens comes after the recent box office failure of Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’, which earned only about $8 million in the US and $20 million globally. While ‘The Odyssey’ will return to IMAX briefly, the screens are expected to transition to ‘Street Fighter’ on October 16.
In addition to the theatrical re-release, ‘The Odyssey’ is scheduled for home entertainment release on November 17. Universal Pictures will launch the film across physical and digital formats simultaneously, including a 4K Ultra HD edition and a standard Blu-ray set.
