The Pokémon Company announces Pokémon: Wild Card film and game update

The Pokémon Company has announced the production of a new animated feature film titled ‘Pokémon: Wild Card’, scheduled for a 2027 release. This marks the franchise’s return to cinemas after nearly seven years. Produced by The Pokémon Company and animated by the Japanese studio CloverWorks, the film will feature a story centered on the competitive Trading Card Game (TCG) universe, following a card player and their companion, Mimikyu.

The creative team includes director Katsuhiko Kitada and character designer Akemi Hayashi. The project aims to explore a different narrative direction than previous entries by focusing on strategic card combat.

Additionally, an update for ‘Pokémon Champions’ was revealed, set to arrive on September 9, 2026. This update will introduce new Mega evolutions, including Mega Absol Z, Mega Lucario Z, and Mega Garchomp Z, alongside various gameplay adjustments.
