The Royal Mint unveils Star Trek 60th anniversary 50p coins

The Royal Mint has unveiled two new collectable 50p coins to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise. This marks the first time the series has been featured on UK 50p coins.

The first coin, released on September 3, features the Vulcan salute alongside the phrase ‘Live Long & Prosper’ and ‘Star Trek 60’. The second coin, scheduled for release in November, showcases four spacecraft from different eras of the franchise, including the U.S.S. Voyager, the U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701), the Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), and the Klingon Bird of Prey.

Some editions of the coins will include color designs, such as blue and purple nebulas, intended to mirror the vivid costumes seen on television when the series debuted in 1966. Prices for the commemorative items start at £19.95.
