The Tragically Hip bassist Gord Sinclair reflects on band's final tour
Bassist Gord Sinclair has reflected on the legacy of the Canadian band The Tragically Hip, marking ten years since the group performed its final concert in Kingston, Ontario. Sinclair expressed a desire to continue creating music with the band but noted that he cannot imagine performing on the road without the late frontman Gord Downie.
Downie passed away in 2017 following a battle with a rare and incurable form of brain cancer. While Downie had previously encouraged his bandmates to continue their musical journey, the remaining members have not sought to replace him. Sinclair compared the potential for future performances to the band Rush, which has continued to perform its catalogue with new musicians.
To commemorate the decade since their final tour, the band is releasing ‘Live July 22 – August 20, 2016’, a collection of recordings from the 15-date Man Machine Poem tour.
