The Tragically Hip final tour anniversary

Overview

Fans and band members are marking the 10th anniversary of the final performance by the Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip. The band’s last concert, part of the Man Machine Poem Tour, took place in Kingston, Ontario, in 2016 following frontman Gord Downie’s diagnosis of terminal brain cancer.

To commemorate the decade since the tour, the band is releasing a new live album titled ‘Live July 22 – August 20, 2016’, which features recordings from the 15-date tour mixed in Dolby Atmos.

In Kingston, celebrations include three days of free events such as live music, film, and public art. In Nanaimo, a fundraiser event broadcasting the final performance will benefit the Crimson Coast Dance Society and the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, which supports education regarding Indigenous history and residential schools in Canada.

Bassist Gord Sinclair has reflected on the band’s legacy, noting that while he wished to continue creating music, he cannot imagine performing on the road without the late Gord Downie.
