The Tragically Hip's final performance marked 10 years later
Fans across Canada are marking the 10th anniversary of The Tragically Hip’s final performance. The band’s last concert, part of the Man Machine Poem Tour, took place in Kingston, Ontario, in 2016 following Gord Downie’s diagnosis of terminal brain cancer.
In Kingston, three days of free events including live music, film, and public art are being held to celebrate the band’s legacy. The original 2016 performance drew thousands of local spectators and was watched by over 11.7 million people nationwide via broadcast.
In Nanaimo, a fundraiser event featuring the broadcast of the final performance will benefit the Crimson Coast Dance Society and the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund. This fund supports education regarding the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada and residential schools. The anniversary is also accompanied by the release of a new live album, ‘The Tragically Hip Live July 22 – August 20, 2016’, mixed in Dolby Atmos.
