The Voice Australia adds secret coach Tones and I for 2026 season
The Voice Australia returns in 2026 with its existing coaching panel—Melanie C, Ronan Keating, Richard Marx and Kate Miller‑Heidke—and introduces a world‑first twist: pop star Tones and I will operate from a hidden backstage room. Unbeknownst to the other coaches, she can rescue contestants who fail to earn a chair turn during the blind auditions and give them a second chance on “Team Tones”. The first artist saved was NSW busker Red Roy, whose performance did not attract any chairs but was selected by Tones and I for a redo. The season premiered on Sunday, 2 August on Channel Seven, with Sonia Kruger returning as host, and will continue on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
The new rule‑book element has been described by Tones and I as a “fairy‑godmother” role, allowing her to mentor rescued singers before they re‑enter the blind auditions. The change aims to increase competition and give overlooked talent another opportunity to impress the panel.
