The Whisper Man film review: Netflix thriller features star-studded cast

The Whisper Man is a 2026 suspense thriller directed by James Ashcroft, based on the novel by Alex North. Available on Netflix, the film features a cast including Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan, and Michael Keaton.

The plot follows Tom Kennedy and his son Jake as they move to a New Jersey community. The narrative intertwines with a local police investigation into a missing child and a decades-old case involving a serial killer, Frank Carter, who was apprehended by Tom’s father, Peter Willis. When Jake disappears, the characters must confront past traumas to save him.

Reviews highlight the strong ensemble cast, particularly the performances of De Niro and Keaton. While the film is noted for its effective use of subtle details and character tension, some critiques suggest the adaptation attempts to compress too much of the source material into a two-hour runtime, potentially resulting in shallower character development for certain roles.
