Elena Rybakina secured a straight-sets victory over 17-year-old American wildcard Thea Frodin, winning 6-3, 6-2 in her opening match at the US Open. The match, which faced a lengthy rain delay, marked Rybakina's return to competitive play following an Achilles tendon injury sustained in Cincinnati.

Frodin, who gained significant attention for serving as Serena Williams' tennis body double in the film ‘King Richard’, provided a spirited performance. Despite the loss, the teenager recorded 11 aces, including several to save match points in the second set. Rybakina praised Frodin’s powerful serving and striking ability, noting her potential.

The win keeps Rybakina’s pursuit of the world number one ranking alive, a goal she can achieve by reaching the tournament semifinals. However, Rybakina expressed caution regarding her physical condition, stating she will monitor her injury day by day.
