Various theater productions are embracing horror themes for the fall season. At the American Shakespeare Center's Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, a production of 'The Witch' retells the 1621 play 'The Witch of Edmonton,' featuring a struggle between the Devil and an outcast character.

In Chicago, Otherworld Theatre is presenting the world premiere of 'Midsummer Night Scream,' a folk-horror slasher reimagining of Shakespeare’s 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' with 1980s-inspired aesthetics. Additionally, Broadway in Chicago is hosting a remount of the musical 'Jekyll & Hyde,' a gothic horror production featuring a 15-piece orchestra.
